Over/Under (Totals)

A bet on whether the combined score of a game will be over or under a set number.

Last updated:

An over/under bet (also called a totals bet) is a wager on the combined final score of both teams. The sportsbook sets a number, and you bet on whether the actual total will be higher (over) or lower (under).

Totals are popular because you don't need to pick a winner — you're betting on the pace and style of the game. Weather, injuries, and pace of play are key factors.

Like point spreads, totals are typically offered at -110 on both sides. Half-point totals (e.g., 48.5) eliminate the possibility of a push.

Example

A football game with a total of 48.5. If the final score is 28-24 (combined 52), the Over wins. If it's 21-17 (combined 38), the Under wins.
