Return to Player (RTP)
The percentage of wagered money a game returns to players over time.
Return to Player (RTP) is the theoretical percentage of all money wagered on a game that is paid back to players over time. An RTP of 96% means that for every $100 wagered, $96 is returned to players and $4 goes to the house.
RTP is calculated over millions of spins or hands — it does not predict your results in a single session. A game with 96% RTP could have you up 200% or down 100% in any given session due to variance.
RTP is most commonly discussed with slot machines, where it varies significantly between games. Table games like blackjack and baccarat have fixed RTPs based on their rules and optimal strategy.
Formula
RTP = Total Amount Returned to Players ÷ Total Amount Wagered × 100Example
A slot machine with 96.5% RTP returns $96.50 for every $100 wagered over its lifetime. The 3.5% difference is the house edge.
