Mississippi was one of the very first states to launch sports betting after the 2018 PASPA repeal — but only at retail locations inside its 26 commercial and tribal casinos. State law (SB 2541, 2017) ties wagering to physical casino premises, so mobile sports betting is permitted only when the bettor is on-property and connected to the casino's local network. There has been no statewide mobile launch despite multiple legislative attempts, most recently HB 774 in 2024, which passed the House but died in the Senate.
Mississippi has a deep retail gaming footprint: 26 casinos along the Gulf Coast (Biloxi, Gulfport, Bay St. Louis) and the Mississippi River (Tunica, Vicksburg, Natchez, Greenville), three Choctaw tribal properties (Pearl River Resort), full slots and table games, retail sportsbooks at most casinos, and pari-mutuel simulcast wagering. The Mississippi Lottery launched in November 2019 selling Powerball, Mega Millions, and scratchers. There is no legal online casino, and DFS is legal under 2017 legislation. Sweepstakes casinos operate without state regulation.
For 2026, statewide mobile sports betting remains the central legislative fight; Rep. Casey Eure has championed the issue and the Mississippi Gaming and Hospitality Association has shifted toward support, but Senate resistance and tribal compact considerations continue to slow progress.
