Connecticut launched online sports betting and online casino gaming on October 19, 2021 through a unique three-skin model that combines its two federally recognized tribes with the Connecticut Lottery. The market is fully operational in 2026 with three mobile sportsbooks (DraftKings, FanDuel, Fanatics) and two online casinos run by the Mohegan Tribe and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation.
Connecticut's path to legal online gaming required threading the needle between two tribes that hold constitutionally protected gaming exclusivity and a legislature that wanted competitive market structure. The 2021 deal worked because each tribe got an online skin, the Connecticut Lottery got a third skin, and the tribes received compact amendments protecting their existing land-based casino exclusivity. The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, which owns Foxwoods, partnered with DraftKings. The Mohegan Tribe, which owns Mohegan Sun, partnered with FanDuel. The Connecticut Lottery initially partnered with SugarHouse / Rush Street and later switched to Fanatics in late 2023.
